Dr. Atanu Koley

Atanu is from Kolkata, India, and received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, where he was a JAP (Joint Astronomy Programme) student. During his Ph.D., he worked on multiphase interstellar medium (ISM), or more specifically on the turbulence and magnetic field in various phases of ISM.

He is working as a CATA postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Amelia Stutz. His research work primarily focuses on investigating ALMA data of protoclusters, and in particular the analysis of the observed motions and polarization in these dense star forming regions.

Research expertise & interests:

  • Studying pre-stellar cores with spectral analysis.
  • Measurement of magnetic field through Zeeman splitting technique.
  • Studying various physical properties of neutral ISM through HI 21-cm spectral line.
