Astronomer at the University of Concepcion creates catalog of Galaxies

Joerg Dabringhausen from the theory group of the Departamento de Astronomia at the Universidad de Concepcion has assembled an extensive catalogue of 1715 early-type (elliptical) galaxies. The values are taken from an extensive search in the literature and are homogenised as best as possible. This catalogue is the first of its kind and will be very useful for researchers all over the world.

We publish all known data from locations, distance estimates, luminosities, magnitudes in different passbands and colours to intrinsic properties like metallicities, half-light radii, ages and velocity dispersions.

Each quantity listed in this catalogue is accompanied with information on its source, so that users of this catalogue can easily exclude data that they do not consider as reliable enough for their purposes.

The explanation of this catalogue is published as a refereed paper in Monthly
Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and can be found here. (http:/xxx.lanl.gov/abs/1605.06705“> 1605.06705 )
The tables of this catalogue are freely available http:/www.astro-udec.cl/mf/catalogue/“> here.
